ASX: PIC - Seeking income in an uncertain world?

With markets expected to be set for a long bout of volatility as the realities of ongoing geopolitical tensions, higher inflation and policy uncertainty play out, we believe the need for yield and the search for income becomes more important and is a frequent theme amongst investor conversation.

Some Listed Investment Companies (LICs) have attempted to reinvent this investment structure in recent years, but the bottom line remains the same: we consider LIC shareholders generally seek an income stream of fully franked dividends from their investment.

The Perpetual Equity Investment Company Limited (ASX:PIC) is a listed investment company that aims to provide investors with an income stream and long-term capital growth in excess of its benchmark (S&P/ASX 300 Accumulation Index) over minimum 5-year investment periods.

PIC’s investment strategy is to invest in a concentrated and actively managed portfolio of Australian listed securities with typically a mid-cap bias and global listed securities. We consider that active management plays a crucial role in the investment process both from a portfolio return perspective and to generate franking credits for the payment of fully franked dividends to our investors.

Looking ahead

At this point in the market cycle, we are finding that growth stocks have become overpriced and there is a return to favouring value stocks. Hence, we believe markets are poised for a further rotation to more value-orientated investment environment. Quality companies with balance sheet strength, recurring earnings and sound management will, in our view, provide great opportunity to deliver sustainable long term returns.
